Predawn in the San Antonio airport

Say what you will about San Antonio’s humidity, lack of topography, and the proclivity of local vendors for wearing plastic cowboy hats, at least their airport is quiet and has good music playing over the PA. The playlist so far:
Queen/Bowie, Under Pressure
Del Shannon, Runaway
Some Buddy Holly and the Crickets-style band playing a song I’m unfamiliar with but which I like rather a lot, really
Rolling Stones, Beast of Burden

Actually, hold that thought. Phil Collins just jumped on the airwaves and broke my buzz. Boo-boo-boo-zeo to you-zeo, Mr. Collins.

Oh god but now some ancient doo-wop number is making my booty shake again in its pleather airport seat “oh I dance I dance till a quarter to three”. Who are these guys? And how does ur-rock and roll remain so durable? I never stop loving it.

Next up:
Abba, Waterloo (remember when this song came on in the Homer’s mother episode and Mr. Burns, in the tank, went from evil to baffled to annoyed? I almost died laughing the first time I saw that.)
Eddie Cochran, Summertime Blues

And I’m happy again. I forgive the Phil Collins lapse.
